Popcorn Words for Senior Kindergarten

Below you will find a list of popcorn words that we will be focusing on this year.  Your child should be able to recognize most of them by the end of senior kindergarten.  Each month we will introduce 4-5 popcorn words from the list.  We will be using the words to:
*make sentences on the pocket chart
*read them in familiar patterned texts (e.g., class charts)
*write a simple sentence (e.g., “I like to play.”)
*recognize them in books
*find rhyming words

 Try This!
Copy the popcorn words onto small cards or self-adhesive stickies and use them as passwords. We are beginning this in school. Popcorn words for the month can be posted around the house (e.g., on the fridge, on a door, by a light, etc).  Point to them as you would a keypad.  Students must say the popcorn word(s) before they open the door, or the fridge…..or wherever you choose to place them.

Have fun and watch the bank of words your child is able to read GROW!
